Bob Hegenbarth Boat Painter

Northwich is home to Bob Hegenbarth, a traditional boat painter with a proven track record of painting boats to a high standard of finish. Spending time being trained by, and drinking a wide range of beverages with, the esteemed traditional painter Phil Speight has enriched and informed my technique enormously. Phil is a true master of the craft, and a much-valued friend.

our approach

One bloke, one brush

No tricks, no shortcuts; the quality of the finished job is all down to methodical preparation, and the consistent, skillful application by hand of each coat of paint. Applying paint by hand ensures a high paint-build for a long-lasting finish.

All work is undertaken by Bob, from removing the first fitting, to the last brushstroke on the lettering.

  • Remove all windows, mushroom vents and fittings
  • Scabble the old paint
  • Needle Gun all those difficult to reach areas
  • De-dust and degrease

Once the prep stage is complete, the layers of paint can begin to be applied, all by hand using a brush!

  • Epoxy Primer
  • 3 Undercoats
  • 3 Top Coats

The part that transforms the paint job.

  • Signwriting
  • Scrolls
  • Artwork
